August 2006 - Against the SEDD Planners
The Tri-Series.Peebles ,Traquair and West Linton Sunday
27th August 06
This years tri-series had clearly fell short of being highly competitive
or social.
It has lost or is losing its way it is also possible it takes too
long. starting at 11.00am and finishing around 8.00pm.
For example one minute there is an Oz smashing 100 the next our
(WLG) opening bowler asked me as captain how he should bowl to a
nine year old boy?
Jon Hunter plays for two teams against WLG and bowls his maximum
overs for Traquair then comes in to bowl the last 2 when WLG start
putting on a few runs against Peebles-he also bats in both games..
Dave Wright batting without a helmet was hit full on the temple
area from a wild delivery.
Having said all that WLG were clearly not at the races our front-line
bowlers didn't bowl well and front-line batsman didn't bat well.
A big improvement in the field with good catches from Tim Brian,
Dave Wright Dave Fairholm and a diving effort from keeper Phil Todd.
In truth though only John Birchmore 33 not out, Cameron Blackie
16 showed any resistance along with Nick Scott. Nick probably The
Gordons most improved player hit an electric 20. one drive through
mid off was magnificent. He also bowled tidily and can feel proud
of his all-round effort. Poor captaining from Fairholm prevented
Scott from bowling the extra overs his efforts deserved.
John Birchmore ended the day with 43 unbeaten runs and was easily
West Linton Gordons top scorer.
Peebles won both their matches Traquair one the wooden spoon going
to West Linton Gordons.
Traquair put on a super BBQ enjoyed by all three participating team
and their friends
