May 2007 - against the SEDD Planners
Hi guys
This is a broadly accurate account from Mr Fairholm - notwithstanding
the fact that Fairholm, D. is mentioned five times.
In the interests of editorial
balance, other details of note included:
- Cameron's newish haircut and
general stature resulted in a notable resemblance to Ashley Giles
whilst fielding at point.
- Cameron's slide/collapse to the ground which sabotaged what was
to be a spectacular throw and run-out attempt was indeed a moment
to savour.
- This attempt, plus Sandy's missed throw at the stumps when he
had time to walk over to them and complete the run-out, did indeed
rival (but not quite) the incident in our previous game when John
Birchmore ferociously threw at the stumps from 12 inches away and
missed the wicket - the batsman having gained his ground 5 minutes
earlier. I conclude that the award for 'Most Ludicrous attempt at
a run-out' should feature at our Annual General Meal.
- Phil Todd, who in helmet and shades, continues to resemble a Harley
Davidson rider without a bike, had one of his most 'active' days
behind the stumps - regularly plunging to the floor to witness the
ball speeding away behind him (the pitch was keeping low......),
oh yes and there was that dropped catch Phil (bowler? - modesty
forbids me). However he was consoled by the general view that even
Stumpy himself would have done no better had he not been in the
USA.
- Dave Fairholm's late dive to turn a relatively simple catch into
a spectacular miss (bowler? - couldn't possibly say)
- Modesty does not forbid me from mentioning that I, too, 'polished
off late wickets' after a first ball wide.
- Eric Robinson performed stoically in the field having been frequently
required to run from long-on at one end, to long-on at the other
end after each over. After several overs of this he decided at the
end of another over to remain where he was, only to see a skier
off the next ball land exactly where he would have been had he made
the long hike.
- Finally I would like to stress that although batting with Cameron
at the time, I had absolutely nothing to do with his run-out which
was entirely self-inflicted.
The alternative Dave
West Linton - WIN !
