Match Reports

16th August 2007 - against Bush

Hi all
Unusually I can add little to this commendably balanced captain's report but I do feel the committee's attention should be drawn to yet another contender for 'attempted run out of the season' from specialist short (or silly?) mid-wicket Phil Todd.....this nomination has a high chance of success as it did result in a run-out...............as usual modesty prohibits me from mentioning the bowler's name, but the delivery bamboozled the batsman (was it our own Ben Turncoat Shepherd?) into lobbing the ball up in a very slow arc exactly to the place Phil was fielding. Mesmerised by the slowness of the ball's flight, Phil somehow contrived to let the ball through outstretched fingers, whereupon it rolled down his body to his feet. Reacting with commendable speed to the combined shouts of the other 11 players, Phil overcame his embarrassment, realised that the batsman had charged to the other end where his partner remained motionless. Phil threw the ball gently but with unerring accuracy to Jon 'substitute Stumpy' Parrott who (as is his habit) whipped off his bails with a flourish - man out. Few of us, of course, realised that Phil engineered this bizarre dismissal having realised that being credited with a run-out in the scorebook was much more cool than being credited with a catch. Hopefully even more nominations will arise in the next 4 games.... Alternative Dave
