August 2006 - Biggar (at Peebles)
Phil Todd elevated to number 7 and probably is best position steered
WLG home with two cracking fours to midwicket with just four balls
to spare. This ended a baron run of six boundaryless overs.
It all started so well for the Gordons with both Birchmore and Reynolds
restricting Biggar to singles and both deservedly taking wickets.
Two catches from Sheppard and a reflex effort from Macnab at point
saw some tidy fielding. Wild made a brilliant effort to get in on
the act at square leg just failing to hold on to a difficult half
chance. Biggar captain Adams and Savage increased the scoring rate
Adams getting an excellent maximum. Adams was dropped early in his
innings and was determined to make WLG pay. A straight six of Egginton
was easily the shot of the day. Then Egginton and Wild put the bakes
on the scoring and Scott secured the wicket of Stewart. Smith put
Biggar back in the game hitting 14 of the final over ending the
Biggar innings with 109.
Fairholm and Anderson got the WLG off to the perfect start both
hitting rapid maximums.
This was followed by the two stroke makers Macnab and Chase and
at 91 for none there looked little danger. Then a mini collapse
and fast bowling from Smith in poor light ably backed by Savage
saw five wickets fall and more importantly overs disappear.
However Todd kept is nerve to ensure the Gordons third win in the
last four matches.
